Episode Title New Dawn of Tradition: A WI Powwow
Episode Description
Showcases one aspect of Native American culture that embraces many Indian nations, tribes, and bands. Young viewers of the video can hear powwow participants their own age talking about different styles of dancing and learn about the distinct clothing, or "regalia," that members of different tribes wear. In addition, this 15-minute program includes narration designed to help students understand that, though tribal nations are culturally distinct, powwows are common to many of them. It also shows how elements of Native American culture expressed at a powwow have changed over time and how they have stayed the same. The New Dawn of Tradition: A Wisconsin Powwow web site offers activities and resources for teachers and students, including links to sites for additional information and research.
