Episode Title ACTIVISM & SOCIAL JUSTICE
Episode Description
In the eighth installment of democracy it is!, we focus on youth actively engaged in promoting justice, taking care of problems in their community, and speaking out through the following stories:
- North Star Academy - When deaf and hard-of-hearing students at North Star Academy grew tired of poor service from restaurants in their community, they decided that something needed to be done! By communicating their concerns to corporate officials from TGI Friday's, these students created a training video that could be used nationwide in every TGI Friday's restaurant.
- Sting Cancer - This group of students from Preble High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, takes activism to a personal level. Heading out into the community, they take care of those who have been affected by cancer. From raking leaves to hosting benefit dances, the youth in Sting Cancer are helping those struggling with this deadly disease.
- Rebuilding New Orleans - Twin brothers William and Patrick Stoudt saw a need in their home of New Orleans to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. They have organized between 20-400 people to empty houses of debris and get families back on the road to rebuilding their homes.
